What happens at your first holistic treatment?

If you have never had a holistic treatment before, the not knowing can be enough to put you off booking. So here is exactly how it tends to go.

Before you go

You will usually be asked to fill in a short health history, either beforehand or when you arrive. Be honest on it, especially about medication, pregnancy and any recent surgery. It shapes how your therapist works with you.

When you arrive

Expect a chat first, maybe fifteen minutes. Your therapist will ask what brought you in and what you are hoping for. This is your chance to say what you want. If you would prefer not to talk during the treatment, say so. If you have an area you would rather they left alone, say that too. Any good therapist will be glad of the clarity.

During the treatment

Depending on the therapy you will be lying down, usually fully clothed unless you are having a massage, in which case you will be covered by towels throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered. You can stop at any point. You do not need a reason.

Afterwards

Take it slowly. Drink water. You might feel wonderfully relaxed, or tired, or a bit tearful. All of this is common and usually settles within a day.

It is entirely reasonable to ask about qualifications, insurance and experience before you book. Anyone worth going to will answer happily. If you would like more on that, read how to choose a holistic therapist.

Every practitioner in our directory has been checked before their listing goes live, so that part of the worrying is already done for you.
