What Is Bio Energy Healing? A Beginner's Guide
Bio Energy is one of the most talked-about holistic therapies in Ireland. Ask around in almost any town and someone will know a person who has tried it. If you are curious but not sure what it involves, this friendly guide covers the basics.
What is Bio Energy healing?
Bio Energy is a form of energy therapy. It is based on the traditional idea that we each have an energy field around and through the body, and that stress and life's ups and downs can leave that energy feeling stuck or out of balance. A Bio Energy practitioner uses their hands to work with that energy field, usually without touching you, or with only very light touch.
Bio Energy is a complementary therapy. It is not a medical treatment and it does not replace your GP or any care you are receiving.
What happens in a session?
Every practitioner works a little differently, but a typical session looks something like this:
You start with a chat about how you are and what has brought you along.
You stay fully clothed, and you will usually sit, stand or lie down, whichever your practitioner prefers.
The practitioner moves their hands slowly around you, often a few centimetres from the body, and may pause over certain areas.
Sessions are often shorter than many other therapies, somewhere between 20 and 50 minutes.
People describe all sorts of sensations, such as warmth, tingling, heaviness or simply feeling very calm. Others notice very little during the session. Both are completely normal.
Why do some practitioners suggest a few sessions close together?
You may find that some Bio Energy practitioners offer sessions as a short series, for example on a few days in a row or within the same week. This is a common way of working in Bio Energy, and your practitioner will explain how they like to do it. It is always your choice how many sessions you book.
How is Bio Energy different from Reiki?
Both are gentle, non-invasive energy therapies, so it is easy to mix them up. The main differences people notice are:
Movement: Reiki practitioners usually rest their hands in a series of still positions, while Bio Energy practitioners tend to move their hands more actively around the body.
Position: Reiki is usually received lying down on a couch. Bio Energy is often given standing or sitting.
Rhythm: Reiki sessions often last around an hour, while Bio Energy sessions are often shorter and sometimes booked as a series.
If you feel drawn to one, follow that. You can read more in our guides What is Reiki? and What is Energy Healing?
