What is Energy Healing?

Energy healing is one of those phrases that can make people bristle, and I understand why. It sounds vague. So let me tell you what actually happens in a session, because that part is not vague at all.

What happens in a session

You lie down, fully clothed, usually on a treatment couch. The room is warm and quiet. Your therapist places their hands lightly on you or holds them just above your body, moving slowly from your head down. They work in silence for the most part. It lasts around an hour. That is it. Nothing dramatic happens on the outside.

On the inside, people report all sorts. Heat, tingling, heaviness, a feeling of sinking. Some people fall asleep. Some cry without quite knowing why. A good few feel nothing much during the session and then sleep better than they have in months.

The different traditions

The traditions behind it vary. Reiki came to us from Japan. Bio energy has its own lineage. Rahanni, Seichim and others each have their own approach. They tend to share the idea that the body has an energy system, and that when it is stuck or depleted, we feel it.

An honest word about the evidence

The scientific evidence for energy healing is thin, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What we do have is a very large number of people who find it deeply restorative, and an hour of undisturbed rest with someone paying you full attention is not nothing in a world like ours.

It is complementary care. It sits alongside your doctor, never instead of them.

If you would like to try it, our directory lists energy healers across Ireland, each one checked before their listing goes live. If you have never had a treatment before, you might also like what happens at your first holistic treatment.
